Review of the New Theatre, Cardiff

Initially, I do not think that I can do better than to write an extract from the Theatre Manager contained in the programme of Autumn/Winter 2006...... ' It was on 10 December 1906 that the New Theatre first opened her doors and she has been entertaining people of Cardiff and South Wales ever since. Though she has seen many changes over the years, one thing has remained constant - the best in entertainment and the friendliest of welcomes. For these and many other reasons, the New is Cardiff's oldest surviving Theatre'.

On countless occasions I have enjoyed the intimacy of the New Theatre, one feels close to its performers be it in Pantomime, Plays, Musicals or Drams. There is always a warm welcome and one feels completely at home there. It is in an ideal central location in Cardiff and although it is not a new building, with all the modern trappings, it has its own unique appeal by virtue of the fact that the internal structure is much the same as it was when it was first built. A charming Theatre.

Did you know that you can enjoy a tasty buffet at the Theatre during lunch hours. A perfect venue to meet friends and chat over lunch in a relaxed atmosphere.

The bar of course is open for the provision of drinks prior to performances and during the interval.

I defy anyone who loves life theatre performances not to feel at home in this Theatre. They will certainly sense its history and will acknowledge the fact that it has delighted audiences over the past 100 years. This Theatre has seen so much in its life time and continues to have so much to offer its patrons.
